Biological Activity:
Isolated from Aspergillus terreus. An inhibitor of hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. Also shown to inhibit mevalonate synthesis, thus exhibiting antitumor activity against numerous human cancer cells. Has shown to induce apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells, inhibit cell growth in malignant tumors and acts synergistically with other chemotherapeutic agents. Research has also shown inhibition of p21ras activation and MAP Kinase.
